General Information
Character name: Shyory
Age: 15
Gender: Female
Appearance:
Shyory has a pair of almond shaped grayish brown eyes surrounded by long, thin, dark lashes. Her skin is a creamy color, fair and healthy enough from the lack of sunlight; she’s often confined inside with her mother, sewing up any clothes that needs to be mended or when her mother’s behind. Her face has lost most of the fat she had as a child and is slowly shaping itself like her mother’s face; her face is long and triangular with the chin slightly pointed and her cheekbones placed high. She has an average length neck, nothing to gawk at save for the prominent mole placed slightly to the right of her neck. Her fingers are long and rough from helping her mother sew. Her lips are very full, fuller than normal with one corner tipped higher than the other when she’s smiling. Her thick hair takes on a dark auburn color; her hair is naturally wavy and with the ends cut in a ragged, choppy manner. She usually leaves her side sweeping bangs alone, only tucking them under the rest of her hair when she hasn’t tied them. She very rarely lets her hair loose, tying it back as often as she can. Shyory’s quite tall and gangly; she has a pair of very long and skinny legs, often joking that she could blend in with her uncle’s runnerbeasts. She doesn’t’ have much of a figure yet, though her hips seem to be growing a bit faster than the rest of her body.
Personality:
Shyory is generally a happy character, showing her cheerful nature to anyone she comes in contact with, but she does have her flaws. Shyory's temper is quick and sharp, able to flare up to even greater heights when prodded. When she is angry, Shyory seeks ways to occupy herself, such as sewing. To go hand in hand with her fiery temper, she does not forgive easily, and will hold a grudge against said person for several fortnights before she eases up. At times, her out-spoken side helps her, but it is also the cause of her temper as well. She’s fiercely loyal to the people close to her, and she’s not afraid to protect them when she has to. The few people who are close to her are the few she can open up to fully; Shyory’s not one to open herself up to anyone she doesn’t know quite well and will leave things out if necessary.
She has an impatient side to her, detesting people who make her wait and hating herself if she ends up making others wait for her. When things don’t go the way they should, Shyory will probably fall into a bad mood. It’s not easy to distract her when she’s concentrating on something, sticking to her path like glue and her tenacious nature makes it difficult for her to let go. She’s quite the serious child for a girl her age, but is able to loosen up when around the people she loves. Out of the three siblings in her small family of four, Shyory’s a very head-strong girl and a hard worker; she doesn’t like being lazy and bored, which, to her, is a horrible way of spending her time. She tries to make her day worthwhile, seeking ways to occupy herself. She very rarely complains as she’s not one to quit so quickly; she’s considered the stubborn one in the family.
History:
Born in high Reaches Hold to a seamstress mother and a fisherman father, Shyory’s the oldest of three children, being a good three Turns older than the middle sister, Vayra. She was born in the early spring and very rarely ventured out of the walls of High Reaches Hold. As a child, Shyory was quiet, but had enough energy to cause a bit of damage; she had one close friend, Lyra, who had a personality opposite to hers. Lyra was the meek, quiet girl in the Hold, tailing Shyory like a faithful canine would and she often fell into trouble that Shyory had created. When Shyory had turned 15, Lyra married to a young harper. With a mate of her own, Lyra’s constant presence grew less and Shyory ended up integrated into her family chores more than usual.
Because of her short-temper, she’s often butting heads with her mother and aunt, while her father takes himself out of the house should an argument between his wife and daughter start. Like her younger sister, Vayra, her father’s the kind who doesn’t want to be in a conflict and prefers to live a peaceful life. It was because of her short-temper that she considered herself her father’s girl; her father being the patient one in the family seemed to be the remedy to calm her anger. Shyory’s mother is head-strong and has a temper just like her eldest daughter, which turned out to be quite disastrous when paired with someone like Shyory. During her childhood days, Shyory was the troublemaker of the house, breaking stuff and causing damage wherever she went, until her younger sister, Vayra, arrived. Forced to set an example for her two siblings, Shyory mimicked her parents, self-appointing herself as the leader of the three girls.
She’s lived a pretty normal, but mundane life of a holder girl. With this humdrum life, Shyory’s done her fair share of wishing for a life that’s a step up from her ordinary one. She loves her mother dearly, but at times she finds her mother to be anything but peaceful; she’s argued with her mother too often about her life. At fifteen, she should start looking for a man to marry, yet Shyory’s too stubborn and too picky to even attempt to find herself a mate. Living with her mother, she has taken up the duty of taking care of her two younger sisters when both her mother and aunt are unable to, rather than searching for some suitor. Life took a sharp turn when she had been searched right out of her families little niche in the hold. Although reluctant to allow her elder daughter to become a candidate, her mother had finally acquiesced on the account that Shyory’s father had cut in. She’d been tending to her sister’s dress when the searchdragon had arrived’ just like any intrigued person would do, she had followed her families’ curiosity and had stepped out of her home. It had been unnerving to have a dragon stare at her for that span of a second, but it had quickly changed into curiosity and confusion. Having lived in the Hold since birth, she hadn’t been quite sure what to do, but it had never been in her nature to linger in a state of confusion for long. Though she’s still getting used to the change of pace at the Weyr, she’s taken it like she had done with everything else tossed her way- with determination.
Goals: At the moment, make her life better. Being a seamstress isn’t exactly the most exciting job out there.
