Peacekeepers and Crimes
Guard
A peacekeeper's job is to be well... a bit violent. Everyone knows what a cob does, that is a Peacekeeper's job. Only low colors are Pecekeepers, being everything from brown to white, and are often more brutish. It is honorable to be a Peacekeeper, because you are helping stop the crimes made by the normal people of Pern. They use crossbows, clubs, short swords, a revolver and sheilds as their main weapons, but they have been told that to draw a sword you must be ready to use it.
Guard Code of Conduct
- We are here to protect all people of Pern.
- We must respond to any crime, whether it is in our job description or not.
- We must not kill unless absolutely nessesary.
- We are bound by duty to do as ordered, and keep everyone safe.
- We take care of our own and leave no one behind.
- We do not draw our swords, or knock our crossbows unless we plan to kill.
- We must do everything possible to not kill anyone.
Diplomats
Diplomats are rider's who are quick of tongue, and are brave. They are often caring people who are witty, smart, and seem harmless. They can only come from the lower colors, from brown to white, and are considered just as honorable as a Peacekeeper. A diplomat must convince a Lord Holder of a City that they do not need to have slavery to keep up their economy, or child labor to keep things running. They carry knives, bows, shields, a small single shot fire arm and short swords as their main arsenal, but as of yet, they have never had to draw their swords.
Diplomat Code of Conduct
- We do not use words to hurt.
- We must do everything we can to help the Peacekeepers.
- We are here to keep everyone safe, and have no blood spilt
- We must keep everyone calm, and step in when things become heated.
- We must relay everything we learn back to the Weyr, and keep nothing to ourselves.
- We have a duty to Pern to make sure everyone understands everything, and deal with anyone who does not.
Shadowriders
Shadowriders are the military hand of Darkened Weyr. They are stationed at the Weyr, and only go out when there is a major problem to be dealt with. They are generally Bi-Toned dragons, but can be any color, any size. They are fast, and efficient. They can set up anywhere on Pern and survive there for as long as needed to get the job done. They are extremely loyal to the Weyr, and seem to have their own internal workings. They do work closely with the other three branches so they can not overstep someone's jurisdiction, but still get the job done. They all have different types of weapons, but each Shadowrider is proficient in three different weapons and carries a shield.
Shadowrider Code of Conduct
- We must do what ever it takes to get the job done.
- We are bound by duty to protect everyone, even if we do not like them.
- We must be honorable at all times.
- We are extremely well trained, and must not use that against anyone unless absolutely nessesary.
- We are bound by the fact that we must only use as much force as i needed to get the job done.
Watchers
Watchers are spies. They are normal people, flit owners, Wher Handlers, tinkers and what not, that report back to the Weyr, giving information about Cities and holds. They are usually unassuming, but anyone can be a Watcher, well, anyone that isn't a dragon rider. There are Watcher Handlers and they are rider's, but usually they are the head Diplomat at a particular city or hold. Watchers carry all sorts of weapons, and are proficient in their chosen weapon(s). They do not have to go to the Weyr to be trained, but can be trained on the job by other Watchers or a Diplomat.
Watchers Code of Conduct
- We must find out everything we can before giving the information to the Watcher Handler.
- It is our job as Watcher's to make sure no one knows we are Watcher's.
- We must train watcher's to the best of our ability, and pass on our knowledge.
- We will do our best to fit into society, or hide away, so that our jobs are not well known.
- We will respect everyone, because you never know when you are speaking with another Watcher.
Crimes
Slavery
There are a few major crimes and many smaller crimes that the Guard, Diplomats, Shadowriders and Watchers deal with on a daily basis. The largest is of course, Slavery. About two hundred years ago, more and more crimes were being commited, and more criminals were having to be put into the mines. But soon all of the mines were filled with Criminals, and there was overflow. It was decided then that if you committed a bad enough crime, you would be enslaved, and depending on the severity of the crime, would be placed anywhere from a household to the mines.
At first it was easy to get out, work for seven years, and then you were free. As time went on the sentence when on and on. Soon a man's son would have to pick up his burden, and then his daughter, and wife, and the grandchildren. Entire family's were being enslaved for the smallest of transgressions, such as not paying taxes on time. The slave population has grown exponentially, and are everywhere from the homes of the Lord Holder's to the Firestone mines.
Child Labor
Child Labor is just as bad, because it is easier to send one's child to work, then to find a place for them to be watched. They can be getting money for you, instead of being a draw. Only the highest of family's never let their children go work at the Factories, mines, Crafthalls, and the other places that children were working.
This was how it has been for years. The entire economy of the Pernise people has been set up on slavery. Alira had come from slaves and knew how they were treated. Alira set out to stop slavery and child labor. The riders of Darkened Weyr stood beside her, willing to come together against slavery and child labor. One of Alira's closest advisers was a very old Harper. He and His dragon had often spent time at the HarperHall and had found that there was no slavery before AVIAS, just after. The Dragon Riders found that older time more appealing. There were other ways to gain revenue for Pern, and they felt that Slavery and Child Labor was stunting the growth of Pern. They started a campaign against slavery, and yet a hundred and sixty years later, they are still working to abolish slavery and child labor.
'Minor' Crimes
The smaller (Though just as important) crimes are things such as Murder, Theft, Embezzlement, Domestic Violence and other such crimes. All four branches of the Peacekeepers must work hard against all of these, as well as the first two. After all, it was these crimes that created slavery in the first place.
Murder is the largest problem, and each group of Peacekeeper's have three or four Guard's and two Diplomats working on this problem in each city.
Theft is a large problem and each Peacekeeper's wing have two or three Guard's and one diplomat working on this problem in each city.
Embezzelment has one guard and one diplomat working on them at one time in each city
Domestic Violence has five or six guards, and three Diplomats at anyone one time in one city working on the problem.
